چکیده

Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) are devastating pests in citrus orchards of Nepal causing huge losses fruits. A farmer's survey was carried from March to December, 2021 randomly selecting 40 orchard owners, and at the same time, a field monitoring fruit organised randomized complete block design with 7 times replicated 3 treatments (Cue lure malathion Steiner trap, Methyl eugenol trap protein bait McPhail trap) were conducted Ramechhap district Nepal. Survey revealed that Chinese fly most problematic insect pest orchard. However, only few farmers practising effective control measures against this pest. Nine species trapped different lures bait, when number differed significantly (p<0.05) except Bactrocera correcta Zeugodacus cucurbitae, which found attracted negligible Cue lure, respectively. Z. scutellaris, tau, B. nigrofemoralis lure. dorsalis zonata minax, Dacus sphaeroidalis bait. The study concluded male useful monitor specific orchards, hence their management strategies should be made accordingly.

Automatic identification of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae)

Fruit flies are pests of major economic importance in agriculture. Among these pests it is possible to highlight some species of genus Anastrepha, which attack a wide range of fruits, and are widely distributed in the American tropics and subtropics. Researchers seek to identify fruit flies in order to implement management and control programs as well as quarantine restrictions. However, fruit ...

Oviposition of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) and its relation with the pericarp of citrus fruits.

Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) represent a threat to fruit growing worldwide, mainly the citrus culture, however, biological studies show that fruit flies are not perfectly adapted to this host. This study investigated oviposition of Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann, 1830) and Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824) and its relation with the pericarp of citrus fruits. We evaluated the relatio...

Visual and olfactory stimuli and fruit maturity affect trap captures of Oriental fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae).

An effective lure-and-kill trap is a potentially important instrument in monitoring and controlling oriental fruit flies, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel). A number of experiments were performed in an orchard of commercial guava, Psydium guajava L., to determine how fly captures are affected by combining visual and olfactory stimuli, and by the timing of trap deployment relative to host phenology. ...

Sivinski & Pereira: Wing Markings in Fruit Flies 321 DO WING MARKINGS IN FRUIT FLIES (DIPTERA: TEPHRITIDAE) HAVE SEXUAL SIGNIFICANCE?

The patterned wings of tephritid fruit flies often are moved in complex manners during sexual encounters. However, there are few cases of sexual dimorphism, and wing movements also may occur in non-sexual contexts. There was no evidence that enhancing or obliterating the patterns on the wings of male Caribbean fruit flies, Anastrepha suspensa (Loew), had any effect on their sexual success. Ther...
